Are you a fight fan? Well, if you are, and you’re looking for a community to share information, talk about your favorite organizations or fighters, or just find out more, you’ve come to the right place. The sport has blown up so much over the last several years, it’s spawned huge gate returns, pay per view earnings, and even some fantasy games. We reviewed the top 10 mixed-martial arts communities so you won’t have to!

10. MMA Ring Report - A lot left to be desired here, as the there are not too many cool features on this site. The forum is bare bones, and not much more on the front page than some news and calendar items.

9. MMA applications on Facebook - It was only a matter of time before groups, fan pages and applications for the sport made their way onto Facebook. I don’t see one place where the MMA fans on Facebook are going in particular, but just searching for the word “mma” alone brought up 23 pages, over 500 groups and 11 applications.

8. MMA News - The front page is cluttered, in case you’re looking for news updates. They also have a forum section. I found the reviews of recent fights probably the best part of the site.

7. MMA Forum - It’s just a forum, but it’s a hardcore one at that and appears to have a dedicated following. If you just want forums for MMA, this is probably the place for you.

6. Official Ultimate Fighting Championship site - Limited in that it obviously only covers the UFC organization, but they have original articles here on their fighters, and there are videos, pictures, and audio clips. The site also features a UFC Fantasy Game.

5. Mixed Martial Arts - - this site actually looks and feels more like a traditional social network than many of the other sites. More user-generated content than your typical site, you can join and submit videos, blogs, and participate in the forums. They even having a training section. Like most other sites, there is a radio section as well as a news section.

4. MMA section on Yahoo! Sports - - Obviously, it’s a news section and not so much a community, but the blogs and top 10 rankings Yahoo!’s MMA experts produce garner a pretty large following based on the Yahoo! name.

3. MMA Fighting - features a blog, rankings, calendar and interviews, along with a community forum. A pretty well done site and community forum.

2. MMA Weekly - The first thing I noticed were that the forums were not very comprehensive - three sub-topics for MMA then a bunch of threads for other sports?! Still, a good source of breaking information. If you want to pony up and pay to be a Premium member, you can get access to audio interviews not otherwise available. They also have a “rumors” section and a “live radio” and a “live fighter chat” sections, but it’s unsure if the latter two sections are updated regularly.

1. Sherdog - One of the most respected MMA news sites out there, they’ve certainly added more social network features to their site, including polls, radio, videos, and other content. With 150,000 registered forum members, they also have one of the largest communities. It also helps that they tend to have breaking industry news first.

I think these sites should move to allowing fans to join in the experience as some of them are focused mainly on the news portion of their site. Some of these sites are doing well to get on the path to social networking and allowing full fan participation. Also, fans generally want to see more video of fights right after the event ends, so whoever can do that in a legal fashion can generate a lot of visits to their site.
