At least that’s what Yahoo! UK/Eurosport are banking on. With the start of tennis’ first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open, it makes sense to take a look at what fantasy tennis has to offer fantasy players. This game seems to be one of the few out there and for those who play Yahoo! Fantasy Golf, it’s a similar concept.

The set-up in a nutshell: You start 7 players a week, either an all men’s team or all women’s team (or both if you wanted). You must start one player in the “A” category (the top seeds), and 2 each in categories B-D. You get points for wins, bonus points for straight set victories. You also get 2 free transfers a week. If you don’t use them, they carry over. Yahoo!/Eurosport mention there are prizes but that “Full prize details will be announced shortly!”. Whatever that means.

You get more points by picking lower-tiered players who make it farther in the “C” and “D” categories, so there is some strategy and research involved. I’ll sign up and give it a try and post back my review of how it works. If you’ve tried it out, post your comments here about this game or another site’s game. Most folks think of tennis as a friendly sport, but I can see how the games might start at “love” and end with some real competition once the fantasy element is introduced.
