Fantasy golf is on the rise. At least the prize money seems to indicate that is the case. Pro Tour Fantasy Golf is a new entry into the game. Typically falling far behind football, baseball, and basketball in popularity, this addition brings potentially increasing participation to the golf realm. The big boys like Yahoo!, ESPN and PGA Tour, to name a few sites - currently offer fantasy golf. But you don’t see the plethora of news, analysis, and other support sites for golf that you do for say, football.
According to the PRWeb press release, the object of the game is as follows:
The object of the game is to pick 3 golfers for each week’s professional golf tournament with the option to substitute 1 golfer with another after the 2nd round. However, you can only use a golfer twice throughout the 24-week season. Whatever earnings each golfer wins is how many points you get. Each starting golfer wins you double earnings while each sub wins you single earnings. Each team gets 6 mulligans. A mulligan can be used to start a golfer a third time or to enter sub after the third round (Sunday).
Luckily, each season is broken down into 4-week mini sessions with prizes for the top finishers within that time frame. This protects you against losing completely in a short period of time and allows for poor performing owners to have a chance to win it all later in the season.
The top prize in each league is $3,000 and the total prize money in each league is $10,000. If anything, that should get more fantasy players to give more consideration to play fantasy golf in addition to the more popular games.
