A Las Vegas sports book will begin taking bets on individual sports players’ projected statistics starting today.

According to AP writer John McFarland:

Station Casinos Inc., the fifth-largest sports book in the country, was to become the first to release a betting line - at 7 p.m. EDT - and start taking wagers based on players’ projected fantasy statistics.

It was really just a matter of time before Vegas started taking bets on fantasy statistics, and Station Casino’s spokesperson stated it was the result of consumer demand that led to the decision.

The betting works by the sports book selecting 24 players each week, all of whom have a pre-determined amount of total fantasy points (per typical scoring systems) the sportsbook predicts they will accumulate. Those projected fantasy points make up the betting line on that player.

Given the increasing popularity and lucrative nature of fantasy sports, the synergy between Vegas betting and projecting individual stats is not surprising.
