KC Joyner, the ESPN.com writer, has now released the latest in his Scientific Football series. While I haven’t seen this year’s edition, I did purchase the book last year and was impressed. With all of the data and charts, you could say it’s Moneyball for fantasy football.

KC’s essays combine the game-tape acumen of a scout with the analytical insight of a statistician. KC is able to do this because he breaks down every NFL game with a unique performance metric system. He then tabulates the information from that system into spreadsheets that he uses to help quantify each player’s performance.

More or less, this is the case. Surely one can poke holes in anyone’s analysis. Once I remember reading an article by Joyner stating that Ashley Lelie was the best deep threat in the league but these cases are few and far between. Typically, the numbers do not lie.

The book is $30 and that’s not really that much considering all the information you get. If you’re lucky then your local bookstore may have a copy so you can take a look to see if it’s worth your dollar. In my opinion, it’s a different but effective way to better yourself in fantasy football.

Every inside edge counts!
