Unless you live under a rock, then you’re well aware that the 2007 NFL Schedule was released today. It’s too early to say who the big winners and losers are, but it sure looks like teams that got a break last year are not receiving one this year.

Years ago, the NFL was supposed to do away with scheduling based on on winning percentage. However, it’s still apparent that this is done. For example, if you look at the non-divisional opponents of the two teams that made it to the Super Bowl (Indianapolis and Chicago) then you’ll see why it’s unlikely that there’s a rematch.

Ultimately, I guess it’s a good thing that the NFL does this. The season is relatively short, there are not enough games for each team to play one another. The parody that exists in today’s football is unprecedented across major sports and this is a direct result of some sly scheduling by the NFL.
